The meeting was called to order by President A. de Weck at 9:05 A.M.
I Minutes: The minutes of the 22nd meeting of the IUIS Council were approved.

II President's report de Weck commented on three points:

1) The need to recruit younger immunologists into the activities and governance of the IUIS 
2) The need of continued efforts to resist fragmentation of the discipline, by IUIS maintaining close ties with other immunologically related organizations. He noted with pleasure the attendance of representatives of the two affiliated commissions of IUIS 
3) The need to consider whether future Congresses should be managed more directly by the Union itself rather than by ad hoc groups established in the host country ( see Item VIII D)

III Secretary-General's report Dr. Metzger reported that the Secretariat is functioning smoothly in no small part due to the devoted efforts of Mrs. Blanche Reines and Fran Feige. Communication with member societies has been satisfactory. The IUIS Directory was produced at a relatively low cost and other expenses have been held below budget. Dr. Metzger's proposal that the Directory be published triennially after the meeting of the General Assembly with annual updates of the addresses of societal officers and IUIS officials and representatives, was approved.

IV Treasurer's Report Dr. Natvig reviewed for the Council various aspects of IUIS finances (Attach. la-d). Attachments la-c show the financial statements for FY 1984 for the Swiss Franc, Dollar, Deutsche Mark and Rouble accounts and attachment Id, the official Auditor's report. There was a net loss of about $6,400 for 1984 so that the balance on 12/31/84 was about $132,000 (see back page Attach. Id). Only about one-half of the IUIS's operating costs are currently derived from member fees. The financial picture in 1985 is unlikely to show substantial changes. A listing of dues payments (Attach. le) shows that one Society has paid no dues since 1982 (Chile), six are in arears for 1984 and almost one-half of the adhering societies have not paid their 1985 dues which were due by Dec. 31, 1984. Dr. Natvig will contact all those who have failed to pay their dues.
