Welcome and opening remarks The president, Dr. Zinkernagel welcomes all members of the newly elected council, chair of federations, committees and affiliations to the meeting. He hopes that together we will achieve the goals of IUIS that are projected for the coming three years. Each member then introduces him or herself. 2. Presidents report Dr. Zinkernagel indicates that the constitution and bylaws of IUIS are available to all council members and others at the website of IUIS. Nevertheless it would be helpful to have a short version. He asks the Secretary General, Dr. Marrack and Mrs. Trittinger to take up this task in the coming months. Then Dr. Zinkernagel sets out to explain that IUIS is not a rich society; that its income is mainly from the dues of its member societies. Therefore the previous council has discussed options to add an additional fee on top of the registration of ICI meetings and to raise an abstract fee. These measures may improve the income of IUIS to a certain extent and provide a way to do more for educational activities of IUIS members and Immunology in general 3. Secretary General report The Secretary General, Mohamed Daha, mentions that unfortunately the minutes of the 48th council meeting are not available yet, because it was held just a few days ago. Therefore the "new" council has some backlog in information, but as we go along, an update will be provided if required. Then he discusses a number of items that need direct attention: A. The 50th council meeting will be held, as agreed earlier, in Hangzhou (China) on Sunday April 17, 2005. This will, most probably, take about half a day. Therefore the council should try to arrive at the latest on Saturday April 16. In Hangzhou the meeting of FIMSA will take place and start on Monday April 18 and last until Thursday. Dr. Zheng Dexian, the organizer of this meeting plans to contact the council members for a possible contribution for the scientific programme. B. Then the site for the council meeting in 2006 is announced. This will take place in conjunction with the regional meeting of FAIS in Senegal (Dakar) on Sunday March 19, 2006. Dr. Dieye, chair of this regional meeting, plans to contact the council members for a contribution to the scientific programme. C. As agreed during the 48th council meeting the website of IUIS will be completed with more information about the actual activities of IUIS committees, federations etc. For this activity help from these bodies will be required. D. Turnover of members in standing committees. In some committees there is a turnover of members from time to time, however not all committees have a scheduled turnover. The EXCO
