Palais de Congrès, Montreal, Canada

see attached list of participants
1. Opening
The President, Dr. Philippa Marrack opens the meeting at 10.00 am and welcomes all officials
and all delegates from IUIS Member Societies. She indicates that the present delegates,
nominated by their resprective societies or federations, will be the members of the General
Assembly of IUIS for the coming three years, their office will end at the 13th International
Congress of Immunology in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is expected that while the GA will
not meet physically in the coming years, members will be consulted by e-mail. Also voting on
most issues will be done by online-voting. Therefore she requests that all GA members update
their e-mail addresses, when required, and send the information to the central secretariat of
IUIS in Vienna (Mrs. Sylvia Trittinger: iuis-central-office@medacad.org).
Further Dr. Marrack mentions that the Constitution and Bylaws of IUIS can be consulted on the
website of IUIS (www.iuisonline.org). There are three governing bodies in IUIS, namely the
Executive Committee (EXCO) composed of 5 members (President, Past President, Vice
President, Secretary General and Treasurer). The EXCO is responsible for the day to day
business of IUIS and all activities of the EXCO are co-ordinated via the central secretariat in
Vienna.
The next body is the Council composed of 16 members, all elected by the GA. The present GA
will vote later at this meeting for the 16 new members 2004-2007. The Council meets at least
once a year and generally the meeting coincides with a regional meeting of one of the
federations of IUIS. The next meeting will be in 2005 in Hangzou, China and will be held on
April 17. Information about this meeting will be provided to the new council on Tuesday, July
20, during the 49th council meeting.
2. President's report
During the last three years the President, Dr. Philippa Marrack together with a small committee
dedicated a major part of her time to get the Constitution and Bylaws of IUIS in place. This
effort was concluded with a vote of the General Assembly. The rest of the activities of IUIS are
running smoothly including the budget of IUIS, decisions on the meeting in Rio in 2007 and the
ICI meeting projected for 2010 in Kobe, Japan. The President thanks the members of the EXCO
for their help and especially Mrs. Sylvia Trittinger for her constructive work as a central figure at
the central secretariat of IUIS in Vienna. Then she asks for comments and questions from the
GA members. No questions are raised.
3. Secretary General's report
The Secretary General, Dr. Mohamed Daha, mentions that business of IUIS is conducted via its
central secretariat in Vienna. He indicates that for the first time in the history of IUIS all
documents are centrally received in Vienna and filed in the archives in the USA. All information
is available upon request. In addition the website of IUIS has been updated, however some work
is still ahead. In this regard attention will be dedicated to provide more links with associated
