Welcome and opening remarks Prof. Zinkernagel opens the meeting and welcomes all delegates. He thanks Prof. Alioune Dieye for hosting the council meeting and for his efforts to welcome all delegates to Dakar. Additionally he asks that there be more visible corporate identity of IUIS in the future and remarks that this is for a major part dependent on the expertise of its member scientists, who support the many activities of IUIS in education and the progress and novel discoveries in the field of immunology in the broadest sense. At the same time it is essential that immunology is recognized as a major attention point of scientific interest. In this sense we will have to seek for more professional help. In this regard the contribution of the Vienna Academy of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research is greatly appreciated. In the past years this has lead to the creation of a more stable situation for IUIS. 2. Minutes of the 50th council meeting There are no comments concerning the report itself. Left open business that will be discussed is already on the agenda, and are: issues concerning future ICI congresses and financial issues. The minutes are accepted by all delegates without abstentions. 3. President’s report (Prof. R. Zinkernagel) - Negotiations with the Brazilian Society for Immunology (SBI) are ongoing on the exact dates for the ICI-meeting in Rio 2007. The proposals of Dr. J. Kalil are to postpone the dates with one or two weeks, and maybe to hold the meeting in Bahia or Brasilia. It is decided to discuss these matters in more detail under item 10 of the agenda - Negotiations concerning the ICI-2010 meeting in Kobe have been finalized to a significant extent. More details will be provided by Dr. Kiyoshi Takatsu under item 10 of the agenda later.
