Gerlinde Jahn from the Vienna IUIS office was also unable to attend, but had sent her regards and remained reachable via e-mail. • Council members 2010-2013: Olivier Boyer, Xuetao Cao, Margarida Carneiro (arrived at point 5), Jeffrey Frelinger, Shigeo Koyasu, Michael Ratcliffe, Franca Ronchese, Chris Rudd, Reinhold Schmidt, René van Lier. Absent: Alioune Dieye, Ahmed El-Gohary, Anna Erdei, Daniel Lopes, Alberto Mantovani, Cielia Maria Riera. • Committee chairs (non-voting): Olivera Finn (Gender Equality and Career), Pablo Engel (Nomenclature), Michelle Letarte (Education), Wayne Hein (VIC), Luigi Notarangelo (PID), Reinhold Schmidt (CIC), Rudolf Valenta (Quality Assessment and Standardization) • Regional Federations (non-voting): ALAI: José L Aguilar Olano, EFIS: Stefan Kaufmann (replacing Catherine Sautes-Fridman), FAIS: Tom Kariuki, FIMSA: Nicholas King • Liaisons and Affiliated organizations (non-voting): FOCIS: Abul Abbas (point 8a), David Hafler (point 8a), ICSU: Gilbert Faure, ISIR: Sarah Robertson. Lindsey Loeper, for Archives, arrived at 11.00. AGENDA 1. Welcome and arrangement of the new council Stefan Kaufmann, the President of IUIS, welcomed members of the IUIS Council and other participants and thanked all parties for the reports they had provided and for work that they had done. 2. Approval of the minutes of the 56th and 57th council meetings, Kobe, Japan The minutes were approved. Olivera Finn informed that the Career Committee had wanted to change its name into “Gender Equality and Career Committee”. The new name was approved.
