The focus of the Rooks Collection is African American history and culture, primarily from the post-Civil War period to the end of the 19th century. The works were collected from diverse sources and represent a variety of influences, both American and foreign. Subjects covered include: African-American history, Military photographs (US Colored Troops), Slavery, Plantations, Australian Aborigones, South Africa Zulu War circa 1860-1930, Individual and group portraits and Scenic views . The collection is composed of 252 images.
