Abstract
Undone is a body of artwork consisting of three , sculptural elements and a video component . All of the work conceptually addresses the use of text in culture , personally and politically . Sedition , constructed from cast letterpress type , borrows text from books banned in the United States , examining power relationships , regulation of information , constructed identity and the subjectivity of freedom . Quell I and Quell II consist of the spacers , between lines and words , in lead type . These material silences carve out a quiet place for the viewer , reinforcing the importance of reprieve . Immolation is edited from images of burning New York Times pages against the sky across a twelve-hour period . The silent film is rhythmic , alternating between flames and sky , asking questions about the reliability of the newspaper , the lifespan of the news and the effects of the information contained within . All of the work is meant to be open and contemplative , leaving room for the viewer to have a unique experience , shaped by his or her own history .
