Abstract	In today's society women are often seen in the workforce alongside men. The roles of childcare and housework that women traditionally held now require couples to reconsider how they will be handled. This study uses data from the 500 Family Study to evaluate how couples divide carework and how it affects their marital relationship. A marital satisfaction index and carework index were used to test the gendered division of carework on marital satisfaction. The t-tests showed that women complete 32 hours and men 22 hours per week of carework. Multiple ordinary least squares regression tests show that time spent on carework decreases marital satisfaction. However, the effect is the same for both parents on their report of marital satisfaction. Women still hold the primary responsibility for caring for the home and children even when employed.
